R Jones

4 points
* 24 lecture hours and 24 tutorial hours
* Second semester
* Caulfield
* Prerequisite: TEC2911
* Corequisite: TEC2921

Objectives Students are expected to acquire skills, knowledge and understanding relating to the concepts involved in damage tolerant design techniques and associated inspection methods used in the aircraft industry.

Synopsis Topics covered are damage tolerant principles and fail safe-safe life structures. Linear elastic fracture mechanics, including residual strength estimation, crack growth and fatigue life estimation tools are also examined. Also presented in relation to these topics are Paris, Wheeler and Forman growth laws. Inception interval determinations and destructive inspection methods are also examined.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 80%
* Assignments: 20%
