Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic understanding and knowledge of the materials used in the aerospace industry.

Synopsis Topics will include mechanical response of typical aircraft metals, composites and adhesives. The relevant ASTM test requirements will be discussed. This subject will focus on the cross-relationships between cost, ease of manufacture, mechanical performance, failure mechanisms and joinability.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70%
* Assignments and laboratory reports: 30%
