Manufacturing processes 2

Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the major processes used for shaping thermoplastics, thermosets, fibre reinforced composites and foams, should be able to select suitable processes for conventional products, identify causes of faults in such products and select optimum joining processes.

Synopsis Thermoplastic and composite processes, foam moulding. Process selection. Effect of processing on thermoplastic properties. Trouble shooting product failures. Adhesive bonding. Thermoplastic welding. Mechanical fastening. Finishing operations.

Assessment Examination: 50%
* Coursework and tests: 50%
