W Wang

4.5 points
* 39 lecture hours and 26 tutorial hours
* First semester
* Gippsland
* Prerequisite: GEG2703

Objectives To further the student's ability to apply the design of machine elements to mechanical engineering systems. To introduce a systems approach to design by means of design projects and case studies.

Synopsis Design and selection of mechanical power transmission systems and components; bearings and lubrication systems. Design and selection of fluid power systems. Study of further aspects of design based on fatigue considerations. Where necessary the subject topics will be supplemented by case studies. Design projects will form a major part of this subject. Where applicable the appropriate standards, codes and statutory requirements will be referred to in the design process. Wherever possible, computers will be used in the design optimisation of systems and components.

Assessment Examination: 50%
* Assignments and projects: 50%
