Structural engineering 3

H R Milner

3 points
* 26 lecture hours and 13 tutorial hours
* First semester
* Caulfield
* Prerequisites: CVE2122

Objectives To develop the students understanding of structural analysis techniques and structural behaviour.

Synopsis Work product principles: principles of virtual force and virtual displacements, equilibrium equations and deformation relationships. Pin-jointed structures: determinancy and indeterminancy criteria in kinematic and statical terms, stability. Statically indeterminate truss and frame analysis by the force method. Use of spreadsheets to solve structurally indeterminate structural problems by the force method.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70%
* Assignments, tests: 30%
