* Prerequisites: CHE4110

Objectives The student is expected to acquire knowledge of the use of commercially available software packages for the dynamic simulation of both linear and non-linear systems relevant to process control. It is expected that an understanding will be gained of the limitations of linear theory when applied to non-linear systems, as well as of the role of modelling errors when applying non-linear algorithms.

Synopsis Modelling non-linear dynamic systems; abstracting linearized model parameters and the use of these to design control schemes based on linear dynamic theory; design of non-linear control algorithms; sensitivity of the latter to modelling errors.

Assessment Examination: 70%
* Assignments: 30%
