Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have examined and analysed recent, contemporary and evolving issues in education from an analytical perspective in order to further develop their ability to reflect on their approaches to teaching and their professional relationship with colleagues.

Synopsis This subject aims to involve students in critically analysing and proposing materials for formal and informal schooling as well as other educational settings, eg company training, neighbourhood house courses, etc. Topics in this subject will promote the fact that formal schooling is only one career option open to graduates in education. The subject is taught by readings, lectures, tutorials, films and study guides.

Assessment A critical/analytical essay (2000 words): 50%
* Design of a learning package for either home-based self-education or commercial/professional training: 50%
