Music education 2

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to perform on a variety of non-tuned percussion instruments; use computers to arrange and create music; demonstrate an understanding of a balanced music program; understand the requirements for music in the Curriculum and Standards Framework series concerning Australian and world musics; compare contemporary approaches to music education.

Synopsis An extension of musical notation and terminology which will enable students to consolidate their practical performance on a variety of musical instruments. A study and comparison of current approaches to music education: Dalcroze, Kodaly, Orff, Schafer, Self and Up Beat, plus the use of computers in music, culminating in the planning of a thematic unit suitable for use in the primary school.

Assessment Written (1500 words): 40%
* Practical work/practical exercise: 60%
