Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed performance skills in singing and instrumental performance; improved their listening skills; developed a rationale for music education in the primary school; developed an appreciation of the importance of past and present contexts in the understanding of music; understood the requirements for music in the Curriculum and Standards Framework series; created a unit of work in music suitable for a primary classroom; be able to use computers to create and arrange music.
Synopsis An introduction to music in the primary school, including consideration of philosophies of music education; familiarity with curriculum requirements for music education in Victoria; and basic skills in listening, composing and performing.
Assessment Written assignments: 40%
* Practical
work: 20%
* Composition task: 40%
