Objectives On completing this subject and RUS3220 students should have acquired a thorough knowledge of modern Russian literature and the main philosophical trends in its development; be able to write an extended essay in Russian on a literary topic and demonstrate a capacity for original research; be able to translate advanced texts from and into Russian, including texts relating to particular specialisations.

Synopsis Topics in advanced translation and composition, work with Russian texts (including those of literary works), and conversation. The emphasis is on the development of a high degree of fluency, both in the written and spoken language.

Assessment Written (2000 words): 20%
