* Prerequisites: Two 8-point second-year level subjects in philosophy including one of PHL2110, PHL2130 and PHL2170

Objectives Students who successfully complete the subject will have an understanding of recent work on the analysis of knowledge, and be able to state and discuss sceptical and anti-sceptical positions relating to perceptual knowledge, memory, knowledge of other minds, etc.

Synopsis The subject will take the form of student-initiated discussions on problems about the nature of knowledge, scepticism and rational belief. It will be mainly based on recent articles, which will be made available.

Assessment Two essays (3000 words each): 50% each
* One essay may optionally be replaced by a 3-hour examination
