Objectives Students must complete boths parts one and two (CHI2480) in order to develop the ability to speak Mandarin fluently and accurately; the ability to transcribe Chinese characters in pinyin; the oral/aural ability for formal and informal modes of communication across a range of social and business contexts; the ability to write formal correspondence using appropriate business vocabulary; a knowledge of mainland Chinese business practices.
Synopsis Mandarin: Phonetic system and phonology; the pinyin romanisation system; the simplified character system.
Assessment Examinations (3 hours): 30%
