Objectives As for CHC2210 with the additional objectives that students completing this course will be aware of how the Roman system of government underwent a change in response to pressures on it and how this can be generalised to offer a pattern for societal alterations. The course aims to achieve a greater degree of methodological sophistication in the analysis of these issues than is achieved at second year.

Assessment Two papers (2000 words each): 60%

* A wider reading of both modern critical works
and relevant primary sources is expected to be demonstrated.
