Objectives By undertaking this research project students will be prepared for the major research project of the MA in Japanese studies. They will acquire the up-to-date knowledge and skills required for understanding and conducting research on contemporary Japan.

Sypnosis The 24-point dissertation is the preferred way of taking the research component in the Masters Qualifying (Japanese studies). (It can be replaced with one or both of Research paper A or Research paper B in Japanese studies). The student will develop and carry out a substantial research project under the direction of a supervisor in the department, and write a dissertation of 15,000 to 18,000 words.
