Jewellery/metals practice and theory 4

12 points
* 8 studio hours and 16 independent study hours per week
* Second semester
* Caulfield
* Prerequisites: APA2503

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should demonstrate a readiness to tackle differing modes of design theory and practice; have an ability to redefine objects; be able to select and develop a methodology for realising a self-directed practice; be proficient in applying health and safety procedures associated with studio practice.

Synopsis Students become increasingly responsible for the delivery of their major study program, with emphasis placed on independent investigation. This, combined with staff consultation starts to determine students' continuing focus for future studio work. Through lectures, seminars and gallery visits, students investigate the role of contemporary craft practice and the nature of the object in contemporary society. Debates on issues of aesthetic, technical and cultural relevance are encouraged.
