Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should understand the principles and processes of casting with glass; be able to handle competently a range of casting materials and techniques, including open and closed moulds; be able to design cast glass objects for different situations against a range of criteria, using problem-solving techniques; have a broad knowledge of current cast glass artists and contemporary cast glass in art and industry.
Synopsis This specialist subject is taken as an elective within hot blown, kiln-formed and architectural glass streams. Students undertake a high level of practical projects using a range of materials for different anticipated outcomes. Studio sessions not only present opportunities for exploration of a personal aesthetic but also guide students to industrial applications of glass art projects.
