The Sports and Recreation Association

Overview

The Sports and Recreation Association (SRA) provides opportunities for students of all campuses to be involved in sporting and recreational clubs and to participate in a range of recreational activities offered through the Clayton-based association. Students also represent Monash in a range of sports at the Australian Universities Championships held annually.

The association's elected executive committee is comprised of students and staff who coordinate and develop policy at monthly meetings held from February to November. Day-to-day management of the SRA is the responsibility of the director, Mr John Campbell.

The Clayton campus has extensive sporting facilities, including twelve hectares of outdoor playing fields, a synthetic hockey field, twelve tennis courts, jogging tracks, a ski lodge at Mt Buller, the Doug Ellis (indoor) swimming pool, spa and sauna, thirteen squash courts, multipurpose indoor courts, a fitness gymnasium, table-tennis hall and a sports medicine clinic.

In addition to the above facilities, the major building program completed at the beginning of 1997 has provided several new sporting facilities, including an additional twenty-five-metre indoor pool, indoor multipurpose courts, an enlarged fitness gymnasium and a new aerobics venue. In addition the size of the sports medicine clinic has been increased and the main entrance has been renovated.

Further information about the SRA is available in the 1996 Diary/Directory and the Orientation handbook which is made available to new students on enrolment or by contacting the SRA. Telephone 9905 4111 or 54111 (internal) BH or 9905 4102 AH.
