Orientation

Orientation will be held prior to the commencement of first-semester lectures. For first-year undergraduates, orientation marks the commencement of the academic year. All new students (including international students, mature-age students and students on the special entry scheme) should consider entering fully into the activities associated with orientation, to familiarise themselves with the various aspects of the university.

The faculties organise a number of functions as part of the university orientation program which give new students the opportunity to meet staff members and later-year students and to discuss courses and study requirements. The student organisations on each campus assist with the introduction of new students to the social and recreational facilities. Information is also provided about the university libraries and the university student services including courses and careers, counselling, housing, health, finance and chaplaincy.

New students are advised to join the orientation host scheme, through which they will be invited to join a group of other new students for a personal introduction to university life by a later-year student host.

A special program is offered to international students which incorporates enrolment in faculties. The three-day program introduces students to their campus and offers workshops on study skills and learning in a new environment. Issues such as adjustment to a new culture are looked at during orientation. Contact Monash International on each campus for program details.

At enrolment, new students will receive a copy of the Orientation handbook and of the 1997 student diary, both of which are further aids to successful orientation.

Full information regarding orientation will be available during enrolment at enrolment centres.
