Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service is operated by the Faculty of Law at 60 Beddoe Avenue (just outside the south-western corner of the Clayton campus). The service provides legal advice and assistance to students, staff and the general community, handles cases, and arranges representation in courts and tribunals.
Appointments are necessary and can be made either in person or by telephoning 9905 4336 Monday to Friday between 9 am and 1 pm and between 2 pm and 5 pm. Client interviews are held on Monday between 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm; on Thursday between 6 pm and 8 pm; and on Friday between 9.30 am and 10.30 am. Advice only is available on Tuesday between 7.15 pm and 9 pm and on Wednesday between 7.30 pm and 9 pm.
The service is free to students and members of the community who cannot afford to pay for legal assistance. Members of staff are asked to make a donation. Unless legal aid is granted, legal representation by a barrister must be paid for. Students and staff are encouraged to use the service.
