Introduction to nursing studies 1: Professional values

6 points * 4 hours per week * First semester * Gippsland and Peninsula

Objectives On completion of this subject students are expected to explore what it means to be a scholar of nursing; demonstrate competency in written and oral communication; demonstrate an ability to use information technologies; identify health information sources and types relevant to the nursing discipline; demonstrate an ability to use library resources to meet their learning needs; identify professional values, core competencies and standards associated with the nursing; provide an in-depth literature review relevant to their health discipline.

Synopsis The aim of this subject is to enable students to utilise skills and knowledge to assist them to become beginning scholars of nursing. Particular attention will be given to the development of literacy and numeracy skills, critical thinking for decision making and computer skills. This subject aims to give students an introduction to, and an understanding of, literature and professional values associated with the nursing discipline.

Assessment Literature review: 30% * Tutorial/written assessment: 70%
