Sociology of health III: The sociology of nursing and health care

Objectives On completion of the subject, students should have developed the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the major sociological perspectives and the ways in which they explain the work of nursing (a) as an aspect of the overall provision of health care and (b) an aspect of the broader society.
Synopsis To examine the diverse social factors which affect the organisation, delivery and utilisation of health care in Australia through the development of an appreciation of the roles of health care workers with a particular focus on nursing.
Assessment Minor essay (1000 words): 50% * Tutorial participation and presentation: 20% * Examination (40 minutes): 30%
