Sociology of health IV: The political sociology of health care

Objectives On completion of the subject, students should have become aware of the relationship between the social factors associated with the provision of health care and the politics of health; develop a critical awareness of the political dimensions of all of health, illness and health care; obtained a familiarity with the social factors underpinning the political dimension of a number of substantive issues in the provision of health care and the practice of nursing.
Synopsis To establish an understanding and appreciation of the social factors which can be used to explain the political dimension of the provision and use of health care in Australia.
Assessment Essay: 70% * Examination: 30%
