Objectives On completion of this unit students are expected to understand the process of providing informational and emotional care; describe techniques of emotional care, counselling and stress management for both the nurse and client in demanding areas of nursing such as death and dying.
Synopsis The therapeutic role of communication in health care; interventions required of the nurse; information needs of patients; counselling; a model for nurses; care for the carer; stress and burnout in nursing; coping with nursing stress; resources for psychological care. The subject is taught by lectures and seminars.
Assessment Examination: 70% * Workshop report: 30%
