Objectives On completion of the subject, students should have developed a knowledge and understanding of the discipline of sociology; acquired skills in the ability to obtain sociological insights into contemporary social phenomena; become aware of the relevance and importance of sociology in both the practice of nursing and more widely in the appreciation of nursing as a profession.
Synopsis An introduction to the discipline of sociology through a study of the individual in society. Exposure to important sociological concepts and their relevance and application to the practice and profession of nursing and to wider aspects of health care and Australian society.
Assessment Tutorial attendance and tests: 40% * Examination (60 minutes): 60%
