Objectives To impart to the student an understanding of the principles and systems used in radio communications.
Synopsis Satellite communications systems: positioning, encoding, modulation, multiplex and access schemes. Television: colour television theory. HF radio: structure of the ionosphere, IPS, multi-hop link calculations. Radio propagation VHF to microwave: point-to-point and area coverage predictions, system calculations. Personal communications systems. Radar: types of radars and system calculations.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60% * Laboratory work and assignment: 40%
