Objectives To study communication systems based on principles and techniques covered in prerequisites. Particular emphasis is placed on telecommunication networks and fibre optics.
Synopsis Telecommunication networks: services, equipment, signalling, switching, line characteristics, mobile telephony, modulation, multiplexing, Australian telecommunication networks. Optical fibre communication systems: fibre types, modes, transmission, modulation, multiplexing, signal degradation, optical sources and receivers and other applications.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 80% * Continuous assessment and laboratory work: 20%
