Objectives On the completion of this subject students should be able to perform numerical calculations involving non-linear equations, systems of linear equations and matrix algebra; be able to fit curves to data; and be able to perform numerical calculations in integration and differential equations.
Synopsis Numerical solution of non-linear equations and systems. Solution of systems of linear equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors of matrices. Spline curve fitting and least squares methods. Numerical integration and solution of differential equations.
Assessment Tests/assignments: 15%
* Examination (1.5 hours): 85%
