Strategic logistic planning

Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the integrated logistics concept; the principles of marketing and how logistics is integrated into this; the concept of customer service, how to establish customer service measures, a framework for the implementation of a customer service policy; the functions, design and management of distribution channels; the principles of materials management.

Synopsis Topics include operational planning and system control; information requirements for planning, definition of detailed objectives, conducting a logistics audit, monitoring and controlling to achieve plans. Forward planning including future logistics investment, generation and assessment of strategic options, contribution of logistics to corporate profits and relationship between logistics strategy and corporate plans.

Assessment Strategic plan (1000 words): 10%
* Strategic logistics plan (3500 words): 35%
* Case studies: 35%
* Business simulations: 20%
