Objectives The aims of the subject are to enable students to gain an understanding of a key period in German culture and literature in relation to the wider social and historical context; to develop their capacity to analyse and critically evaluate representative literary texts of the period with special reference to their response to historical change. GRN2035 together with GRN2045 comprises the second year of the major sequence in German literature and culture, which is followed at third-year level by a selection of options.
Synopsis This subject examines German literature between 1770 and 1800 through the study of selected texts.
Assessment Examination (1 hour): 40%
* Seminar paper: 20%
