Objectives The aim of the subject is to enable students to gain an understanding of the critical function of literature in a divided Germany and since reunification; to develop their capacity to analyse and critically assess representative literary texts of this period with special reference to writers' understanding of their role as dissidents. Students will also be enabled to demonstrate textual knowledge and analysis through a detailed analysis of a text.
Synopsis GRN2025 will examine German social and cultural history through a study of German literature since the 1960s through the study of selected texts.
Assessment Examination (1 hour): 40%
* Seminar paper: 20%
