Objectives

The course is designed primarily for language teachers and prospective teachers and aims to expand each student's knowledge about the Japanese language generally (through the completion of several subjects in Japanese linguistics and sociolinguistics) and more specifically, about the acquisition and teaching of Japanese. Non-native speakers will also have the option of extending their language skills through higher level language study and through the study of some subjects in Japanese. All students will receive an introduction to research in applied linguistics and the research seminar, with the option of completing either a research paper or a thesis.
