The Department of Japanese Studies offers three MA programs. The MA programs in Japanese studies and in Japanese applied linguistics may be taken (1) by research only, (2) by a combination of coursework and research, or (3) by coursework only. The MA in Japanese business interpreting and translation is available only by coursework. The MA by coursework only or by a combination of coursework and research is a two-year program. To proceed to the second year. Students must have completed each first-year subject with marks of credit or better. Students who have completed an honours degree with a grade of HIIA or above, or students who have equivalent qualifications, may be exempted from the first-year of the MA program. All MA programs can be taken on a part-time basis. (NB The Australian Government requires that international students study on a full-time basis as a condition for the student visa).
Each of the three MA programs is described below.
