Synopsis
This unit aims at upgrading your analytical tools in microeconomics, which will help you gain more in-depth understanding of microeconomics and prepare you for rigorous research in economics. Topics include preferences and utility, consumer choice theory, demand analysis, producer theory, game theory, firm behaviour in various market structures, choice under uncertainty, and economics of information.
Outcomes
The learning goals associated with this unit are:
- upgrade students' analytical tools for advanced microeconomics
- obtain in-depth understanding of the key ideas in microeconomic theory
- gain the ability to apply microeconomics to the analysis of a range of economic issues
- prepare students to undertake other fourth-year units and further studies in economics.

Within semester assessment: 40% + Examination: 60%
Workload requirements
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. The unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
