Synopsis

The unit extends intermediate skills in composition and music technology by requiring students to compose for screen. Students will also apply mastering techniques to recorded works and develop listening skills in relation to musical works that accompany other media.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  1. recognise a range of composition techniques for screen;
  2. compose music to accompany screen;
  3. apply studio mastering techniques to compositions;
  4. perform in a chosen/approved music ensemble with a critical awareness of the various roles involved;
  5. critique composition for screen, demonstrating perceptive music listening skills.

Workload requirements

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
