STEM education focuses on teaching the specific knowledge and skills required in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to children in the early years through to Year 12. It covers the interrelationship of these areas, and the delivery of learning in an integrated, cross-disciplinary way. This area of study covers concepts and contemporary issues in STEM education, contexts and systems, locally and globally, and the major theoretical and professional debates in STEM education as located within contemporary research. This includes policy development issues, content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, as well as the leadership and research skills that inform and enhance the learning of STEM at school. STEM education is a priority in the education sector to build capabilities in the students of today to meet the workforce demands of tomorrow.
