  • Full-time study only. Students have a maximum of eight years to complete this course.


This course examines sport and promotion side-by-side, examining how promotion helps build support for sport, especially sports events, and how major sporting events are both marketed and managed. The degree draws on units from such disciplines as marketing, management, communications, journalism and public relation. It offers universal business skills with a distinct sporting focus. It combines this with a practical orientation stemming from a work placement unit in the actual sporting industry.


The Bachelor of Sports Promotion and Events Management is designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the business of managing and promoting sporting events.


This course consists of core units, a major, a minor, and additional elective studies.


Students must complete:

(a.) seven compulsory core units (48 points):

  • ATS1356 Public relations writing
  • ATS1260 Sport and society in Australia
  • MKW1120 Marketing theory and practice
  • MGW2150 Sports events management
  • MKW2420 Marketing research methods
  • MKX3200 Sport marketing and sponsorship
  • BEW3100 Work placement program (12 points)or BEW3200 Research project in sports events management (12 points)

Students who complete the Gippsland Co-operative program will be exempted from BEW3100.

(b.) a sports promotion or events management specialisation (48 points)

(c.) a sports promotion or events management specialisation (24 points)

(d.) an additional 24 points of electives to make up a total of 144 points

Students must complete a minimum of 36 points at third-year level (includes those completed in the major).

No more than 10 units (60 points) at a first-year level.
