The law is the backbone of business. It regulates financial transactions and marketing processes, and in doing so applies the law of contract and tort. It regulates those engaged in companies and partnerships and their banking and tax needs. It regulates new economic frontiers, such as e-commerce via the development of cyber laws.

To complete the Business law major in the Bachelor of Business (Law), students must complete:

(a.) The following two units:

• BTF1010 Commercial law
• BTF2220 Corporations law and trusts

(b.) six units from the following list:

• BTF2223 Corporate crime
• BTF2601 Banking law
• BTF2991 Employment law
• BTF3091 Stock exchange and derivatives law
• BTF3100 Environmental law for business
• BTF3181 Marketing law
• BTF3201 International trade law
• BTF3931 Taxation law
• BTF3951 Business taxation and GST

(c.) two units from the following list:

• AFF1121 Introduction to financial accounting
• AFF1300 Money and capital markets
• AFF2391 Cost information for decision making
• AFF2631 Financial management
• ECF1200 Macroeconomics
• ETX3231 Business forecasting
• MGF2351 International business
• MGF3401 Strategic management
• MKF2111 Buyer behaviour
• MKF3141 Issues in competitive advantage

Note: The major requires completion of at least two units (12 points) at each of second and third-year levels.
