Synopsis
PHL1020 consists of two distinct components, which may vary from year to year. The components offered will be drawn from the following list:
- Time, Self and Freedom;
- God, Freedom, and Evil
- Greeks and the Good Life;
- Philosophy of Sex; and
- Crime and Punishment.

Objectives
Students successfully completing this subject will acquire:
- skills in argument analysis,
- improved comprehension of complex texts,
- the ability to critically interpret philosophical positions
- improved written communication skills.
Assessment
Written exercises: 60%
Exam: 40%
Contact hours
3 hours (two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial) per week
Prerequisites
None, but it is recommended that students take PHL1010 prior to PHL1020.
