Synopsis
Demand forecasting using simple techniques; inventory management; making inventory decisions from accounting data; design of stock counting systems and inventory valuation; assessing vendor performance; value analysis; decision trees in assessing risk; performance assessment of the inventory management and purchasing functions.
Objectives
The learning goals associated with this unit are to:
- discuss the range of techniques available for managing inventories along with their advantages and disadvantages
- explain the integrated nature of procurement, production, distribution and demand and inventory management
- analyse inventory data and suggest appropriate management techniques to effectively manage inventories
- conduct a supply chain review in an organisation.
