Synopsis

Objectives
- To investigate the historical roots of current urban policy dilemmas.
- To inculcate skills in the historical analysis of urban landscapes and of textual and visual representations of the city.
- To critically appraise the historical and theoretical assumptions underlying current urban policy debates.
- To encourage reflection on, and critical self-appraisal of, the student's own writing.
Assessment
Essay (2000 words): 40%
Class project (2500 words): 60%
Third-year students will be expected to read more widely and work at a higher level than second year students.
