Synopsis
As for HPL2507.
Objectives
On successful completion of this Unit students are expected to be able to:
- comment competently on major political theorists.
- comment competently on the major debates in which contemporary thinkers are engaged in regarding to politics, power, freedom, justice and citizenship.
- employ a range of analytical skills and conceptual frameworks.
- apply meaningful comparative references when discussing the political theory of major political theorists.
- make intelligent use of primary sources to write a well argued and competently written essay for assessment.
Assessment
Written work: 60%
2 hour exam: 40%
3rd level students are required to demonstrate greater levels of theoretical reflection and analysis in their written work than students studying at 2nd level.
