Synopsis
The unit introduces students to the methodologies of history and political science. It focuses on the development of a critical approach to research and method in history, political science and the social sciences. Students will develop the ability to apply a critical and analytical approach to the central questions in each of the discipline areas. This approach will focus on issues associated with objectivity, causation and explanation. Students are required to prepare a research paper on an original history or politics topic. The research essay will be based the use of primary sources.

Assignment 1 (1,000 words): 35%
Assignment 2 (1,000 words): 25%
Assignment 3 (2,500 words): 40%
