Synopsis
This unit reinforces and develops students' language skills, within realistic business situations where it is also necessary to draw on socio-cultural knowledge regarding register, politeness, etc. The unit introduces key business communication skills and the language of French business practice used in everyday business situations. Students are required to use these skills and language whilst taking into account differences in linguistic and socio-cultural practice. The unit also requires students to discover key information on the structure of the French economy and on the practice of French-Australian trade.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
- Use a range of forms of business communication in French such as: letters; faxes; internal reports; curriculum vitae; phone calls; presentations; liaison interpreting.
- Demonstrate a high level of language ability and an awareness of business and related social practices in France.
- Show sensitivity towards appropriate forms of address, style and register and be able to use them in specific business situations, both written and oral, where cross-cultural communication is required.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of French economic development and business structures such as: key economic indicators; company structure; European monetary union; French-Australian trade.
Assessment
Written business communication tasks: 60%
Oral-aural business communication tasks: 40%
