Synopsis
This unit includes methods for conducting teacher research and issues associated with undertaking research in teaching and learning in the range of settings that impact on student learning. Students will examine how their research findings can be used to help improve educational outcomes. Students will research classrooms and other settings in order to better understand how practice influences learning, and the development of teacher knowledge through a teacher as researcher approach. Students will see how research by teachers in their own classrooms and other settings can improve understanding of teaching and learning through a teacher's work in both formal and informal contexts.
Objectives
The broad aims of this unit are for students to demonstrate evidence of having gained knowledge of the nature of and methods for conducting teacher research; issues associated with undertaking teacher research in a range of educational settings; how research can improve teaching, learning and administrative issues, and how research is a part of teachers' everyday work.
Assessment
Research proposal and assignment (4000 words): 60%; seminar presentation 40%
Hurdle requirement: Satisfactory completion of all tutorial tasks.
