Synopsis
This unit is delivered in conjunction with Architecture Design Studio
- The subject provides practical knowledge, skills and fabrication techniques for the production of models and prototypes to investigate and physically test design proposals. Students will undertake various programmed exercises set in coordination with Architecture Design Studio
- These will involve the use of a range of materials, and will require the safe operation of manual and electric workshop equipment. Integral to the subject matter is the engagement with strategies for environmental sustainability in relation to architectural design and construction.
Objectives
On successful completion of this unit, students will:
1. Be able to select different approaches to model making and prototyping and understand their implication for the design concept and process and as a mode of presentation; 2. be familiar with a range of fabrication techniques as they apply to construction of architectural models and prototypes; 3. have a working understanding of the application and operation of manual and electric workshop equipment; 4. Understand the occupational health and safety policy requirements of the model making workshop environment and be able to demonstrate safe work practices on a selected range of equipment.
