Structure and organisation of the faculty - Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health SciencesThe Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is a robust research and teaching network operating at campuses in Australia and overseas, and encompasses around 2000 paid academic, technical and general staff. Our students tackle areas including ambulance and paramedic studies, behavioural neuroscience, biomedical science, health sciences, medicine, midwifery, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, social work and radiography and medical imaging. We also teach many science students. The Faculty comprises ten schools:
The faculty nurtures strong links with research institutes such as the Baker Medical Research Institute (The Alfred), the Prince Henry's Institute for Medical Research (Monash Medical Centre), the Mental Health Research Institute, and the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health. We also work closely with major teaching hospitals including Monash Medical Centre, The Alfred and Box Hill. In total, the Faculty operates in 125 practices and 68 hospitals. Chaired by the dean, the Faculty Board governs academic operations. Heads of the ten schools support the dean with administrative and resource management matters, while the faculty manager governs the overall general, teaching and research administration of the faculty. Associate deans and deputy deans provide assistance regarding academic and student matters. The offices of the assistant deans (clinical) and hospital clinical deans coordinate teaching in the hospitals and other clinical settings. Heads of schools - in conjunction with heads of departments and directors of centres and institutes - provide academic leadership within their disciplines and are responsible for the management of staff and resources. Heads and directors, together with all other professors, play a significant role in the Faculty’s overall academic activities.
