Students seeking registration by as a tax agent are advised to refer to guidelines published by the Tax Agents’ Board. It is important to note that the guidelines for consistent assessment of the acceptability of courses of study in accountancy, commercial law and income tax law are revised from time to time. The guidelines can be found by selecting the 'Tax agent registration' link on the board’s home page at http://www.tabd.gov.au.

Regulation 156 of the Income Tax Regulations 1936 prescribes the academic and relevant employment requirements for registration as a tax agent. A Monash graduate who has completed the requirements for the award of a bachelors degree that includes three years' study of accounting and 18 months' study of commercial law, including income tax, will be registered by the Tax Agents' Board.
