Course description

This double degree course allows students to qualify with both the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems degrees.

This double-degree program offers professional education in a range of business and information technology disciplines and provides students with the foundation on which further advanced business and information technology studies can be undertaken.

Course structure

Areas of study

Students must complete a major specialisation in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, banking and finance, human resource management, law, management, marketing and risk management. For details of the units required for major specialisations, refer to the Bachelor of Business entry at the beginning of this ‘Outline of undergraduate studies – Caulfield’ section of the handbook.

Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Caulfield campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. These other studies can, in some cases, form a second major in a business discipline.

In their Faculty of Information Technology component, students are required to complete a major in systems development.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

(a) students must complete 18 units (108 points) from the Faculty of Business and Economics as follows:

(i) six compulsory core units (36 points):

(ii) a major specialisation of eight units (48 points) in a discipline or field of study of the faculty, with at least two units (12 points) at each of second and third-year levels. The major must come from the approved list of majors.

(iii) four non-compulsory units (24 points) must be taken outside the main field of study.

(iv) a maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 points).

(b) students must complete 18 units (108 points) from the Faculty of Information Technology as follows:

(i) seven common core units (42 points):

(ii) a major in systems development (66 points) as follows:

  • FIT1007 Computer programming 2
  • FIT2023 Organisational problem solving
  • FIT2024 Software engineering practice
  • FIT2030 Web-based development
  • FIT2027 Systems design and implementation
  • Two units (12 points) at third-year level (industrial experience project)
  • Four units (24 points) at third-year level from a schedule approved by the Faculty of Information Technology

(c) students must also satisfy the following double-degree regulations:

(i) completion of 36 units (216 points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

(ii) a maximum of 15 units (90 points) of first-year-level units.

(iii) a minimum of 10 units (60 points) of third-year-level units.
