Course descriptionThis course, offered by the School of Nursing and Midwifery, is designed to allow students to take an early exit alternative from the Master of Nursing. Students will not be directly enrolled into the course but should they opt to successfully complete a major stream consisting of 24 credit points of specialist study and a further 24 credit points of elective study from within the Master program, then terminate their enrolment they will be eligible to exit with a Graduate Diploma of Nursing in a specialist area (further information available at www.med.monash.edu.au/nursing/postgraduate/). Some clinical specialty majors also require a minimum of employment and/or supernumerary time with a clinical partner in the area of specialty to be carried out concurrent with enrolment. Course objectivesOn completion of this course students will be able to: 1. develop and apply advanced knowledge and skills in a selected area of specialist clinical nursing practice; 2. employ creative approaches and skills to address complex nursing and health related issues; 3. support the development of evidence-based nursing interventions; and 4. utilise critical thinking and problem solving skills to respond to issues arising in complex and dynamic health care environments. AssessmentAssessment includes case study reports, tests, online tutorial discussion groups, clinical skills, exams, clinical performance, advanced life support assessment, learning packages and assignments.
