Units indexed by faculty Graduate Diploma in Emergency Health (Paramedic)Course code: 3877 + Course abbreviation: GradDipEmerHlt(Pmed) + Total credit points required:48 + 4 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOn-campus (Peninsula – P/T only) Course descriptionThis course, offered by the Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice, builds on the Graduate Certificate of Emergency Health (Paramedic) and continues to support students to improve their clinical practice and knowledge related to the delivery of emergency health services while preparing them for leadership positions. Participants explore their own role and the role of their employer within the context of an integrated emergency medical system, considering the issues and trends that influence scope of practice and service delivery. A learning contract will be used to assist students to identify practice and knowledge gaps and to draw on their workplace experience to promote self-directed learning opportunities aimed at improving their clinical practice. Course objectivesBy the completion of this course, the graduate will be able to: 1. explore an additional area of interest that is related to the field of community based emergency health to further develop the ability of the graduate to prepare for an advanced clinical practitioner role, through the completion of elective units of study; 2. identify the possible future trends in the delivery of pre-hospital services and the impact on the role of the professional ambulance paramedic; 3. discuss the influences of a changing health care environment and population on the role of the ambulance paramedic; 4. relate the contemporary issues and influences of emergency medical service systems to the role of the ambulance paramedic; 5. review his/her own clinical experience and arrange suitable learning experiences to maintain learning needs as a result of the varying clinical experience in the field; 6. critically review ambulance paramedic practice in light of current evidence; and 7. demonstrate the attributes required of an interactional professional in community based emergency health.
